Procedure Overview
A DJ stent (Double-J stent) is a thin, flexible tube placed inside the ureter to keep it open and allow urine to drain freely from the kidney to the bladder. It's used both as a standalone urgent treatment for an obstructed kidney and as a routine adjunct after many stone procedures.
Who Needs It
DJ stenting is used for patients with ureteric obstruction, an infected obstructed kidney needing urgent drainage, or as a supportive measure after procedures like RIRS, URSL or pyeloplasty.
Preparation
Preparation is often minimal since stenting can be needed urgently, but typically includes basic blood tests and imaging to confirm the obstruction.

Anesthesia
