Partial Nephrectomy
Procedure Overview
Partial nephrectomy is surgical removal of only the tumor-containing portion of the kidney, preserving as much healthy kidney tissue as possible. It's the preferred approach for smaller, localized kidney tumors when technically feasible.

Preparation includes detailed imaging review, blood tests, an anesthesia assessment, and fasting beforehand.
Step-by-Step Procedure
Anesthesia
General anesthesia is administered.
15–20 minPort Placement
Laparoscopic or robotic ports are placed to access the kidney.
15 minTumor Excision
The tumor is carefully removed with a margin of healthy tissue.
45–90 minKidney Reconstruction
The remaining kidney tissue is repaired and reconstructed.
30 minDrain Placement
A drain may be left temporarily to monitor for bleeding or leakage.
